Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ordering, building, and owning an RML guitar.

Ordering & Payment

How do I place an order?

For in-stock guitars, contact us directly to discuss availability and arrange purchase. For custom builds, we begin with a consultation to discuss your needs and preferences before taking a deposit.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfers, checks, and major credit cards. For custom builds, we require a 50% deposit to begin work, with the balance due upon completion before shipping.

Do you offer financing?

We work with several third-party financing partners who can provide payment plans for qualified buyers. Contact us for more information about current financing options.

What is your pricing range?

Our instruments typically range from $8,000 to $20,000+ depending on model, materials, and specifications. Each guitar is priced individually based on the woods chosen and level of appointments.

Custom Builds

How does the custom build process work?

We begin with a consultation to understand your playing style and preferences. Then we discuss model choice, tonewoods, and specifications. Once the design is finalized and deposit received, your guitar enters our build queue. You’ll receive regular photo updates throughout the process.

Can I specify every detail of my custom guitar?

Yes. You can choose the model, top wood, back and side woods, neck profile, fretboard radius, inlay patterns, binding, finish type, and virtually any other specification. We’ll guide you through the options and explain how different choices affect tone and playability.

Can I visit the workshop during my build?

Yes, we welcome visits by appointment. Seeing your guitar take shape in person is a special experience. We’re located in Colorado and happy to arrange a workshop visit if you’re in the area during your build.

Do you build left-handed guitars?

Absolutely. Left-handed builds are no additional charge and follow the same process as right-handed instruments.

Timelines

How long does a custom build take?

Current build time is approximately 12-18 months from deposit to completion. This includes time in our queue and the actual build time of 3-4 months. We provide estimated completion dates and keep you updated throughout the process.

Can I request a rush build?

We occasionally have openings for rush builds at an additional cost. Contact us to discuss your timeline needs and whether we can accommodate an expedited build.

When are in-stock guitars available?

In-stock availability varies. We build a small number of spec instruments throughout the year. Check our current inventory or join our mailing list to be notified when new instruments become available.

Shipping & Care

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship worldwide. International shipping includes full insurance, CITES documentation when required, and customs coordination. Buyer is responsible for any import duties or taxes.

How are guitars packaged for shipping?

Every guitar ships in a premium hardshell case, double-boxed with extensive padding. We use trusted carriers with full insurance and signature-required delivery. Guitars are shipped with loosened strings and protected neck supports.

What kind of maintenance do RML guitars require?

Like all fine instruments, RML guitars benefit from regular care. We recommend humidification in dry climates, regular string changes, and periodic professional setups. We provide detailed care instructions with every guitar.

Can you adjust or repair my RML guitar?

Yes. We provide service for all RML instruments throughout their lifetime. Contact us to discuss any needed adjustments or repairs. We also work with trusted luthiers nationwide who we can recommend for routine service.

Warranty & Support

What warranty do you offer?

Every RML guitar includes a lifetime warranty to the original owner covering defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty is transferable to subsequent owners for 10 years from the original purchase date.

What is covered under warranty?

The warranty covers structural issues, finish defects, and hardware failures that result from manufacturing defects. It does not cover damage from accidents, improper care, unauthorized repairs, or normal wear.

What if I'm not satisfied with my guitar?

We work closely with every client to ensure satisfaction before the guitar ships. Once you receive your guitar, you have 7 days to evaluate it. If it doesn’t meet your expectations, contact us immediately to discuss options.

Do you offer setup adjustments after delivery?

Yes. If you need setup adjustments after receiving your guitar, we can guide you through minor adjustments or you can ship it back to us for professional service. Initial setup adjustments within 30 days are complimentary.
